Utah Ski Maps
In this post, we're thrilled to share a collection of carefully curated backcountry skiing maps that will help you explore some of the best backcountry skiing areas in Utah. On all of these maps the red arrow lines are general uphill tracks and the green dots are some common options for runs on the descent. Please read additional notes at the bottom as well.
Big Cottonwood Ski
Here is one of my favorite maps here in Salt Lake. It is generally my go-to area for skiing and is more up-to-date than any of the other maps. With that being said, use it with discretion, after all, it’s just a map you’ve found off the internet.
Little Cottonwood Canyon
American Fork Canyon/Lone Peak
Millcreek Canyon and Parleys
Moab
The Chuting Gallery
Wasatch MEGA Maps
Wasatch MEGA map NOTE* This map is really hard to use because it has so many tracks on it. I have generally stopped using it. It was a compilation of all of the maps but since I stopped updating it the individual areas are more up-to-date.
Utah Ice
I did not track all of these by any means! I was just able to scrape the internet a bunch and compile what I found. All of these maps will continue to be added to but I tried my best to grab a bunch of info from all sorts of corners of the internet and organize it in one logical space. Thank you to all the unknown people who publicly (knowingly or unknowingly) posted their maps on Caltopo, Powder Project, UAC, and assorted trip reports.
Make sure to check out the Custom Layering on the right for different terrain modeling options. Also, on the left of all the maps you can alter the current avalanche forecast by creating rules so that the current rose will be displayed on your desired terrain. A note on adding the avalanche forecast. Make sure you are not using the directional degrees that are the option on caltopo. If N-facing aspects are affected then you must use the applicable 22.5-degree increment, for N it would be 337.5 - 22.5. DO NOT just use "N" or your information will be incorrect. For degree reference, I have listed them below.
N: 337.5-22.5
NE:22.5-67.5
E: 67.5-112.5
SE: 112.5-157.5
S: 157.5-202.5
SW: 202.5-247.5
W: 247.5-292.5
NW: 292.5-337.5
If you have any doubts about how to use it then just use the "Avalanche Terrain" layer and figure out the aspect and elevation separately.
Additionally, download Google Earth Pro! Export these maps as a KML and then import them into your program.
